As of the 2000 census, the city's population was 362,470, but the metropolitan areas population was 5.4 million. Miami has many links to Central America, Latin America, and the Caribbean, as well as being home to a large Spanish-speaking population, in particular a large Cuban community which makes up over a third of Miami's population. Miami is the second-largest city in the State of Florida. The city is situated in the south-eastern corner of the State, between the Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. Miami was incorporated as a city in July 1896 and is one of the fastest growing urban centers of the U.S. The rapid population growth is the result of the inter-state migration and the large influx, mainly from Cuba and neighboring Latin American Countries. Like New York, Greater Miami is regarded as a cultural "melting pot", due to the strong influence of various immigrant communities. Click here for more from Cognigen Travel Agency
